Stripping for a Good Cause - 7 Reasons Why I’m Flashing my Finances

Neon Stripper

by Ryan on

In the next few day’s I’ll be making my appearance on the stage here at Planting Dollars. My name will still be Ryan - I won’t be changing it to Candy or Mercedes, but you will see a whole new side of me.

Seeing as though it’s a bit like amateur night there won’t be a stripper pole, but I’m sure there will be a little debate and slight embarrassment!

Will they think my net worth is hot? Was that financial enhancement surgery worth it? Are my stocks big enough?

I think you get what I’m saying.

But Why?

There are a couple reasons I’m doing this, other than making a few grand in a night for easy money! I kid…

1. I want a place to track my finances - I know what you’re saying “But Ryan, you could simply do this in excel, why the internet?” Frankly, I’m on the internet a lot more than excel. Maybe I’m just too lazy for excel to load?

2. Accountability and feedback - This one’s a biggie. If I post my goals and money online people will be there to see what I’ve done and whether or not I’m living up to what I’ve said I’d do.

3. I enjoy transparency - Building a successful relationship with you (the reader of this blog) is important to me and I’d like to build your trust. By posting my finances I believe I can show you exactly what I’m doing and there will be greater learning experiences for everyone in return.

4. Fighting the money taboo - I think money is wayyyyy too big of a taboo in the American culture and this is one way I’m fighting it.

5. Teaching others - The ability to learn from my mistakes via real life examples is pretty valuable. I’ve always enjoyed learning about other successful people (not that I am - I’m not) in great detail to learn how they got that way. Hopefully this will help you, if you’d like to be like me.

6. Makes this blog more interesting - Tangible numbers are debatable numbers. Learning personal finance is easier when you can see what’s actually happen instead of being given general tips and lists of the “top ten things” you need to do to be wealthy.

7. Putting my money where my mouth is - A lot of the things I talk about I’d like to demonstrate that I’m actually doing. I’m not just some guy writing a personal finance blog who talks about ideas, I’d like to also act on the ideas.

Now all I have left is to find some stilettos and a man thong for the show - or simply finish up a few calculations from my bank account - either way.

Would you ever discuss your net worth with strangers? Why or why not?
