Good to know. I also started my blog as a way to explore an interest in finance. For me, engineering isn’t necessarily a passion – it was simply what I was “suggested” to pursue. I’ve consideried transitioning careers, but that requires more of an investment right now than blogging does. This will be a way for me to “test the water” before I “make the leap”.

Fair enough about having an “other” category. Why don’t you consider different, possibly more appealing, titles like Pruning Habits (since you are Planting Dollars). Whether you are learning about starting a business or living healthily (heathfully?), you are still personally developing yourself. I just think PD is a generic, vanilla label.

@ Fin Engr – Yes I have an interest in writing about international real estate and raw land. Why do you ask?

These concepts are important / interesting to me because I find the world of finance fascinating, but don’t want to be a financial planner or banker because these positions require me to stay in one location. I’d like the freedom to work via my laptop anywhere in the world which is a big reason I started this blog – to explore passions without being tied to a J.O.B. Therefore mobile living, finance, and even real estate tie into this overall direction I’d like to move in my life.

I’m not sure Personal Development fits fully into entrepreneurship as I see it as relationships, healthy living, and other things that aren’t focused on necessarily starting a business. If I wanted to write an article about waking up early in the morning or developing confidence I’m not so sure it would tie into the other categories.

I actually think you should nix the personal development idea. As I see it, “personal development” is a very general umbrella term. Your other topics (entrepreneurship for example) already fall under that category.

Ryan, I think that personal development fits in nicely with your site, because it’s the foundation of becoming the person who can rightly handle the wealth that you generate. If we have limiting beliefs about who we are and what we can achieve, we will subconsciously sabotage all our efforts. And in writing about these topics, you are going to continue to grow!

I think these topics give your site a nice individual flavor. They are broad enough to give you a lot to write about while still maintaining a central theme. It also sounds like you are passionate about all four of these areas which I think is one of the most important things to consider. Being a successful blogger is a lot about sticking with it over the long haul. Ask yourself, “Will I still want to write about these same topics two years from now?”

Based on the direction I see you moving, personal development would certainly be a great addition as well.

None of us knows everything about any subject, we are always growing and improving whether we recognize it or not. But those that focus on it grow faster and grow more and the benefits follow.

Warren Buffet once said the greatest investment you can make is in yourself. True, so true.
