Finding the right answers to your question should inspire action. I would submit if your question ends with inaction (deer in the headlights) you have not quite got the question right. Using the lean approach, it is important to keep asking why until you come to the root cause of your problem or opportunity. Yup, spot on. The more we become aware of the world by asking why, the more we realize so many things that exist shouldn’t, like the plethora of isms you mentioned.

There is a reason for everything and most things can be explained, not all of course. But the examples you mention are proof of this. Take the time to ask why other people are doing the things they are and you’ll probably find a better way to help them.

I was actually going to write a post about the “why not” probably next week. I completely agree with you. Why almost makes me a deer in headlights and is a bit discouraging, whereas why not causes me to take the leap a lot more. The leap then, often, results in better things in my life.

I ask why a ton too, however it seems like a double edged sword because often we may ask why too much which causes us from not taking action… I wonder why. haha.

I guess I’m one of those inquisitive little buggers – that’s why I’m reading this. But you’re absolutely on point – too many people don’t ask “why.” I think that’s because the answer is in fact very scary.
However, if more people did ask the question “Why” there’d be more understanding and less racism, sexism, and whatever-other-ism you want to name.
Why? Because when you discover the reason why the hungry homeless man robbed the gas station, it makes him less criminal and more human. When discover why the young so-called thug so drugs, we’d probably learn that he did so because no one in his family has a job, he’s starving and has a starving baby at home. That’s why. What does that say about our society as a whole?
I’m sorry I’ve gone on a tangent…
