If you’re a blogger you know how valuable backlinks are, especially from high ranking sites. Planting Dollars has been growing rapidly (check the alexa ranking on the right column), but I’d like to gain your feedback on how I can make it better.

If you’re willing to review my site by answering a few questions, I’ll give you a backlink to an article of your choice in the Seeds of Knowledge weekly round-up. Sound fair?

I’m wondering…

1. Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well? (they’re the five topics listed on the top of the site).

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?

3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better?

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?

5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?

6. What makes you return to the site?

7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.

This is an ongoing offer that doesn’t have a time limit so if you think of anything in the future it would be greatly appreciated.

Simply email me your answers and the post you’d like me to highlight at Ryan [at] Planting Dollars [dot] Com. If you don’t want to email me, simply drop the answers as a comment below.

Thank you in advance!

Ryan

I really enjoy video blogs, especially ones in Hawaii. It’s fun to follow people’s journey’s that are different from the status quo. More pictures, the better imo.

The topic about finding a new job will probably be especially helpful in today’s environment.

Your post series on building a new online business is particularly helpful.

I really think if you selflessly promote others, especially in the beginning, you’ll get multiple fold returns in the future.

Don’t worry about a link back. Only link back to what you think you really enjoy!

The 5 core concepts in my opinion should be as follows. First would be Personal Development which flows into Entreprenuership that follows Real Estate which in turn gains you Personal Finance which gives you personal freedom towards Moble Living.

What keeps me returning to your site is the fact that it has great content with a well design layout which has help me visualize for my own blog of what it can become.

1. Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well? (they’re the five topics listed on the top of the site). Although I think the website is GREAT, One of the topics jumped out at me (real estate). In another post, I think you hit it on the nose when you said that you’re more interested in websites. I believe websites to be the new “Real Estate”. Having followed home-owning trends for a while, I discovered that people who pay taxes on their homes literally don’t “own” them in the sense that the government/third-party organization could never come in and take it from them. To my knowledge, a website can’t be “taken” away by anyone..a truly great real estate to have and secure a following.

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?
Perhaps a social connect widget/API that let’s Twitter/Facebook users have more functionality.
3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better? Featured Content…DEFINITELY!! :)

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?
You’re doing a GREAT job thus far…
5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?
Definitely! I have a friend from Hawaii who showed me pictures once. Never been and would love to see more!
6. What makes you return to the site?
I’m a fellow blogger who learns by doing/observation. You have a great thing going here and interacting with your visitors, in the way, is a great idea.
7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.
Keep up the great work and pick any post you may find useful on my blog. Thanks!

Hey Eric,

Awesome feedback… I like your thoughts on number one in particular and will probably write a post comparing the two in the near future. I left real estate on here mostly from the investment angle. I grew up with real estate investors as parents and saw there was a lot of money in it… I’d like to explore it from the angle of being able to invest internationally and how you can manage it while living a mobile lifestyle. It seems the biggest hurdle is that it ties you down to one location so I’d like to get feedback from readers in the future about this.

Thank you for taking the time to fully answer all my questions! Your backlink will be up tomorrow on the links round-up.

Ryan, as you look more into this linking stuff can you answer me this question:

What if a blogger deletes the links to other sites in old posts, do those links go away in the minds of Google etc?

1. Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well? (they’re the five topics listed on the top of the site).

I think personal development, real estate, and mobile living seem out of place – especially mobile living. I can’t say for sure what categories would better fit there – maybe ‘Investing’, ‘Entrepreneurship’, ‘Personal Finance’, ‘Passive Income’, ‘Money Strategies’.

Something like that, just thinking out loud, but I am more interested seeing at the top things that jump out at me that I want to click because financial freedom is awaiting me. On a side note, I really need to think about this for my website – still kind of trying to find out the real message I want to convey.

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?

You’ve actually done a pretty good job with the layout. I think it would be helpful to create a ‘first time here’ page that takes you through the most important posts if you have just arrived.

3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better?

Wish I could help with this one – I’ve used WordPress a lot, but the plugins aspect of it is something I’m relatively new on. I’d say the only thing I can think of is a Contact Form for your contact page, unless there is already one I missed – and the plugin I use is: http://www.642weather.com/weather/scripts-wordpress-si-contact.php

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?

Absolutely – stocks, dividends, creating useful information websites – the guide you are writing about your travel site is very helpful.

5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?

Yes – Hawaii has an awesome landscape. A little break-up of the information with Hawaii is great.

6. What makes you return to the site?

You’ve shown success with you Alexa ranking to be honest, that’s the main reason for me. Someone who knows what they are doing. And I come back because you seem to genuinely care about helping people.

7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.

Nope, good job, and I look forward to the challenge of finding the success you have – I do enjoy that challenge :)

Kiesha @ WeBlogBetter February 24, 2010 at 4:23 am

Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well?
Real Estate sticks out for me for some reason – I know it’s a part of obtaining financial freedom, but whenever I see it these words, I assume I’m going to see houses for sale – I feel like you could create a whole separate blog for this topic, just because there’s so much involved in this topic. But if you changed that header title to “Investments” or something similar – it’s more closely related to Financial Freedom that Real Estate (does that make sense?) That would open this space up to more than just real estate which can still function as subtopic of “Investments.”

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?
I’m still waiting on some social media connections – Twitter Id, Facebook, people want to connect with the person who’s writing – it feels like you’re a bit off-limits at this point.

3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better?
Have you created a mobile edition for your site with the WordPress Mobile plugins and themes? Have you considered joining the BlogEngage Community – they offer a “Vote” plugin that allows visitors to vote on your blog posts. Other than those 2, I really prefer minimalism – less is better.

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?
I think what you’re doing here is fine. I like the revolving series you have – that’s how I’ve organize my Christian Blog.

5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?
Yes! Videos would be a welcome addition. They keep visitors on your site longer and the referral traffic from Youtube would be very beneficial. In other words, they’ll increase your ranking – although it doesn’t seem like you’re having a problem with that :)

6. What makes you return to the site?
Your super engaging and humorous writing style. It makes this site unique and helps you stand out in the crowd of thousands of bloggers every where. You’ve mastered your writing voice and know how to command attention. And I’m not trying to butter you up – I’ve taught English composition and I’m well read – it takes a really good writer to engage me, because I’ve pretty much seen it all. So you keep me coming back because I want to see what interesting and original connections you’ll make. I really enjoy your site.

7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.
That’s it!

Hi Ryan, it would definitely be great to have a backlink, so I’ll be answering your survey:

1) In my opinion, they really do, and they are pretty interesting core topics to with since they are good categories to have on your site. And I do think that they will benefit the people who would be looking for information on your concepts.

2) I would say that it is user friendly for me, but if you would like, you could put a link to a page stating “How to use this site”, to be like a documentation or explanation of what the user would expect and how to browse your site.

3) Well honestly, I’m new to wordpress myself, so I couldn’t comment much on that one too.

4) Probably a topic on what are the steps that you took on how to make your site bypass months or years of ranking.

5) I think that adding video would be totally cool. Sharing your experiences would definitely be a good way to show people to live a good life.

6) I find this site as an inspiration for me, especially because you were able to break the rankings in just a few weeks. And I really like how you are able to share your thoughts with people and express them in good detail and quality.

7) Just keep on doing what you do and hope to learn more from you.

Hey Ryan,
i consider this site a masterpiece. I’ve taken about a week now trying to find critics, but all my efforts went in vane.
Then only plugin i think could help for your site, is a Google translation plugin.
It help improve your Google ranking, since all pages you visitors translate are cached in the Google server.

Hey Ryan,
1. The topics mesh well. I like that you started with Personal development, then the three tools that can help someone reach their dreams (mobile living?)
2. I’m finding it hard to find ways you can make this more user friendly. Maybe make each post an audio?
3. DoFollow? Not sure if you’ve heard of it.
4. How to inspire people to do something with their lives
5. Video is powerful and creates a greater sense of value. I think it would position you as a ‘pro’ in the eyes of your viewers.
6. Networking, great reads (mostly those on personal development and entrepreneurship). Oh, and I’m competitive and noticed people have commented more than me. Don’t worry, I’ll let you keep the top spot. :)
7. I think you did a good job with the brand. The tree is cool and ‘Seeding…’ ties in nicely.

Thanks again, and the post you could highlight might as well be our most recent,

Ryan,

1) In my opinion, Real Estate could be combined with Personal Finance. Other than that, the topics seem to relate well.
2) I can’t think of anything that could be added to make your site more user friendly. But perhaps rearranging the “Contact, Archives, About, and Home” links to the left side would stand out to the readers more.
3) You probably know more and have more plugins than I do, so I can’t offer any useful suggestions at this time.
4) Since you seem to have achieved some level of blogging success, I’d personally like to read more about your blogging advice, including monetization.
5) If you can somehow tie the videos into the theme of this blog (ie. finance, entrepreneurship, etc) then I think it’s okay. But if it’s totally off topic, maybe it’s better to not include them.
6) Your post about making money with adsense got me to this site, and your helpful reply to my comments led me to come back.
7) Just keep up the great work. It’ll be interesting to see how you progress going forward!

Ryan, not sure if you know about this plugin, but
striptease
let’s you have your “read more” links point to the top of your post near the title, where your readers can see your adsense.

Personally, I didn’t like it before when I clicked on the “read more” link, and it would skip over the section where adsense was displayed.

Hey Ryan,
I hope you find this feedback useful!

1. Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well? (they’re the five topics listed on the top of the site).

I think the topics lend themselves to each other. However I think the core of the site could be towards Personal Development and Entrepreneurship. Good Personal Finance is part of your personal development, and can be demonstrated in Real Estate. I think Mobile Living is more of a case study of personal development – Real Estate is a case study for Personal Finance. These two topics I guess are well blended together. This website, and your blog on your business intent in Hawaii could well be a good personal case study of Entrepreneurship.

I think your story in general is one of Entrepreneurship. I will be visiting regularly to see how your adventures unfold!

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?

Not that I can think of for now. For me, blogging is about sharing personal experience for others to learn from. Your site seems to be very much in that direction.

3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better?

I’m new to wordpress myself, so I cannot help you here.

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?

I’d be interested to hear more about your personal development category. My blog/website is quite personal and a little hap-hazard, but its about the things I’m interested in. One of my personal experiences which has developed me significantly, and I’m writing a blog series on, is undertaking my PhD. I therefore look forward to hearing about your experiences of upping and leaving your native town to the far off reaches of Hawaii. (I am very jealous!)

5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?

Definately! Personal interaction with the readers of any blog I think is important. I particularly enjoyed the video of you trekking Diamond Head. When I was there, we drove up part of it. It was by no means the same. I think the videos will compliment your Explore Waikiki Beach site.

6. What makes you return to the site?

You appear to like minded to myself. I have a career path, but I have ambition and drive to see where I can take myself. I guess I return to “surround” myself with driven people.

7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.

Good luck with this!

Felix June 14, 2010 at 10:27 am

1. Do you think the 5 core concepts of the site mesh together well? (they’re the five topics listed on the top of the site).

It is surrounding around the idea of money, career, life and achievement. I like the idea you choose. I feel that mobile living is your final goal, or at least the form of living you prefer in future, and money is to support the goal.

Would you like to add topics like “family relationship” in your blog? It gets more personal.

2. Is there anything that could be added to the site to make it more user friendly?

An introduction of yourself, may be by video, so that we can know you more?

3. Are there any wordpress plugins that I’m missing that you think would make the site better?

Would you like to feed some articles from other blog / news that really worth?

4. Are there any particular topics you’d like me to talk more about?

Family relationship, and travel experience, of course, to match mobile living.

5. Should I add video to the site about my own journey and adventures in Hawaii?

Sure! It is amazing.

6. What makes you return to the site?

Sharing of real life experience.

7. Any other feedback would be appreciated.

I visit your site after introduction by Liza from youtube, your blog is really great!

Hi,

I just came across your blog. It’s great that you are offering free backlinks, we also offer such a service on our site (http://searchengineswebsite.com/free-backlink).

I thought I should point out though that the backlinks on your site are currently DoNotFollow. This means that Google ignores them in a backlink count. If you are unsure as to what all this means, we have written a post on it on our blog:
http://searchengineswebsite.com/what-is-nofollow-and-how-can-i-find-dofollow-links/

I think your blogging software will have installed DoNotFollow automatically and you will need to install a plugin to remove it.

Hope that helps.
